Audition Area for Program Directors |
|
| Download a high-quality audio show: | This area is intended as an audition area for program directors and station managers. The two selected shows Dr.Seuss and Saboteurs are available for listening in higher audio quality than shows archived on our regular site. As historians we like to make all our shows available to visitors, but with seven years worth of shows we can only make all available in archival lower audio quality. If you check out our archive please note that we now only record interviews in person or via ISDN.
Talking History is a weekly half hour show produced by the Organization of American Historians with a grant from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. The host, Bryan Le Beau, and all interviewers are professional historians and their guests are among the best in the field. The main feature of the show is a fifteen minute interview with a writer or historian. Many of our interviews are with authors with recent publications in the field, but we also focus on the history behind the news--one of the titles of a regular segment on the show. Our goal is to bridge the gap between professional historians and the public and to demonstrate that history is not confined to chronology but consists of layered mosaics of understanding. In addition to our interviews and our history in the news, we recommend a site of the week--real or virtual--where the listener can learn more about the topic covered in the interview. And we include weekly commentaries, featuring specially invited guests who offer us their thoughts, as historians, on items in the news or of more general interest. We cover a wide range of topics: from the Founding Fathers and the Constitution to baseball and gangsters, from the American Revolution and the Civil War to Jesse James and Mother Jones. The two selected shows Dr. Seuss and Saboteurs reflect the eclectic nature of our programming. If the half hour format is a problem we recommend a companion show New Letters on the Air, featuring readings and interviews with contemporary writers. Talking History is available free of charge. It is available on Public Radio's Content Depot. If your station does not subscribe to this service we offer other free alternative distribution methods. For more information please contact:
